Climate Resilient Communities Fund
This year D&G Climate Hub have awarded ACT their ‘Climate Resilient Communities’
fund. This pilot initiative supports development and delivery of community training to
increase confidence and skills in taking climate action, and demonstrate that we are
‘climate ready’.
ACT will use this fund to identify and share opportunities for climate action in our local
area, effect climate related behavioural change, and actively encourage lived local
experiences of climate change to be shared. In collaboration with Galloway and
Southern Ayrshire Biosphere and D&G Climate Hub we aim to contribute positively to
national outcomes on climate, carbon emissions, biodiversity improvements and
sustainable development.
Wait, what? How?
ACT is expanding activities to support a local circular economy, with a programme of
events including repair cafes, upcycling workshops, clothes and book swaps, skill
shares, recycled arts sessions, and a local offers/wants market. We will also host
sessions for climate conversation and climate literacy training, as well as taking part in
the national ‘Big Plastic Count’.
By the end of the project we will have appointed two community climate champions,
developed a community tool library for ongoing use, and refurbished our off-grid
portacabin as an accessible tool share station.
