ACT Minutes 01.03.2025
Community Field
Attending: Jif, Lee (and Hugh), Karen, Fred, John H, Susanna,
Apologies: Bill, Caro, Jenny, Rowan, Hala, Simon B.
Banking
Karen and Susanna to arrange appointment with Bank of Scotland to open an account. Ideally by April 1st. Signatories will be - Susanna, Jif, Karen. (Ideally 1 more person).
Funding Updates
- Bill - to get £300 from D&G Climate Hub for exhibition hall hire. Thanks to them.
- Jenny - awarded £100 from D&G Climate Hub for seeds for allotment.
- Jenny - looking at funding for community growing sessions + equipment incl. rodent free composter. Cost @ £7,000 in year 1. Looking for 2-year funding.
All in favour of application.
- Suggestion: a 1 year ‘pilot project’ may be easier to find funds for.
PR / Communications Update
- Rowan would like agreement to change name of social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) to Auchencairn Climate Transition and to use new logo for profile pic, and get input from ACT members for social media pages.
All present agreed.
- There may already be Facebook page set up (by Susanna) in name of ACT. This can be taken over/ used/ deleted as needed.
- The name for the pages should be ‘Auchencairn Climate Transition SCIO’.
- A request that Active group gets better at promoting ACT events through word of mouth. Rowan proposes circulating a summary of up-and-coming events to Active Group each month. Additional info / posters can be provided by Rowan.
All present agreed.
- Feedback: there are a lot of posters for ACT activities + they are not always clear (small font, too dark, or too much info). There has been talk of doing A5 but info needs to be clear – request for large type and clear font.
ACT SCIO – now official
We now need to: set up first meeting of trustees, to agree office bearers / roles; set up charity bank account; update name / agreements etc; inform mailing list of our new status. Actions to be agreed and undertaken by Trustees.
Thermal Imaging Camera
An action from last meeting - John has researched Thermal Imaging Cameras suitable for sourcing heat loss in houses. Prices range from £370 - £480.
Discussion about benefits and potential use as tool to engage / educate.
John – suggests it would be good to try one to see how suitable it is before buying. Susanna – will ask Crichton Carbon Centre if they have one to borrow.
Karen – will look at possible funding sources.
AOB
Auchencairn Initiative - David Foreman will be new chair from 1st April. He will keep us posted about any funding updates when they agree what funds will be required / applied to.
Mac-Can visit to Auchencairn – March 8th. Can notice be given to wider community about the Mac-Can visit, or at very least the schedule sent to full Active group.
Date of next meeting
Wed 26th March, Village Hall, with Safeguarding session by Lee. Proposed that next outdoor meeting (end April / May) could be in bike workshop.
